OMG OMG OMG! Last weekend I found streaky bacon at Coles in the refrigerated meat section!! It was a bit thicker than what we are used to back in the States, but it was crispy and naughty and sooooooooo yummy!!! Go and get yourself some!!  |

Bugger, bugger and bugger again. It is sooooooo not bacon night but after this I just had to drop by the local Coles and check it out. Yep there it was on the shelf and yes I got some to try. Not bad, and I wished I had made a salad and crumbled it all over it Not going to say it beats the bacon I get cut by my butcher but yeah okay not bad at all............ *insert turning back icon here* |

i saw this the other day and had the passing thought that it looked like american bacon but i was looking for something else so didn't pay much attention. but i'm definitely going to have to go back now!! |

I have been buying the rindless middle bacon and cutting the rounded bit off lol, it's thicker than normal but it's the closest thing I can get besides panchetta, which is a bit thin and has a cured taste to it. I have seen pork belly at Asian markets, which I think is actually the correct cut of meat for us style bacon but I can't get them to cut it thin enough  Do you know what the packaging said so I can have a look for it? I dont think they have this in the bush I have been getting mine from my local butcher he gets it from a supplier in Queensland that supplier stopped doing business with the butcher. This butcher is in the mall guess where....wait for it.....outside of Coles. I havefood envy now! |

Hey Jasper, Try these guys: Kaytering Supplies Ph (02) 6765 3300 21/23 Wirraway Street, Tamworth They are wholesale and have a minimum order qty - streaky bacon is 6 pkts. Apparently though they also have a retail butcher. If all else fails you can ask where the retail outlet in Tamworth is that sells the bacon. Product number is PRSB10 - Streaky Bacon - Brand is Primo. |

Okay - so I've tried TWO Coles today (Windsor/Balaclava and Prahran) and could not find the streaky bacon anywhere... Where oh where are you finding it in Melbourne??? |

I found some! Bought 2 packs today at the Coles near Linbrook/Hampton Park. We were out scouting new towns to live in and randomly stopped into their Coles *edit: I found it with the mince/pork chops/sausages section Edited by bubbles, Jul 4 2011, 05:22:01 PM.

Hi Incognito, I should have put that as well. Found it in the cold section with the packets of Hans, Primo etc goods.  buggered if I know why though, as packets of the other style is in the meat seciton........ |

So they do have it at southland that's right near me I will check then when I run out. On a side note, is that not the busiest Coles EVER?  Everytime I go in there its so crowded you cant move!
