Where does everyone buy baby supplies? I'm pretty well adjusted to the cost of everything here, but the baby wipes, OMG. I think they are, per wipe, the most expensive thing I've had to buy here. Going to the grocery store for diapers is also killing my budget-where do you all buy diapers, baby food, formula, baby gear, etc? And has anyone seen Pampers diapers? They had them at Cole's in Pyrmont, but they stopped carrying them. Boo. Also, can anyone recommend a good Australian brand of diapers? I don't want to buy a whole box that will give my baby a rash, hence the diaper snobbery.

Hi there - yep, nappies are sooo expensive. How old is your baby? I recommend Huggies if baby is newborn (try to find them on sale), and after newborn Aldi ALL THE WAY! Aldi nappies are awesome and quite reasonably priced for Oz. We also use the thicker Aldi wipes. We have never had any nappy rashes with any Aussie nappies. On the other hand, I thought my bubba was going to die of a nasty nappy rash he got from Pampers on the States a year ago.

We made most of our baby food b/c it's just too expensive to buy. When we did buy stuff, we would buy things on sale but mostly just got Rafferty's Garden from Big W if possible. We got formula from Pulse - not sure if they have that in Sydney. Chemist Warehouse are AWESOME too - very good prices on things. I'd get formula there a lot.

Big W or Kmart for baby gear, or maybe Target.

Good luck! Baby stuff is so expensive here!!

Well, Costco is opening soon in Sydney. The one here in Melbourne carries Huggies (Australian style), Pampers, and Kirkland (which are US type Huggies Supreme rebranded). I am personally not a fan of Aldi diapers because although they have a bit of stretch in the side, the rest of the diaper is bulky and weird to me. Just my opinion, of course! Plus, the kirkland and pampers diapers about 1cent more at Costco and they are my favorite. Strangely, Pampers are the cheapest Costco option here, so I tried them this time around and they do have a strong smell, which usually indicates perfumes that could cause rashes. We haven't had issues. I do like Aldi wipes just fine, but usually buy the kirkland wipes at Costco.

No advice on anything else as we moved here when my daughter turned one. I did notice that Mothercare has a deal right now on one of hte deal websites (don't know which one) where you can buy $100 worth of clothes (maybe other baby gear too) for $60. So sorry I don't know which one, but either social living or deals.com.au or groupon.

Aldi has sugar free applesauce that I buy for my kids and I too made most of my baby food on my own. If you haven't done it, don't be afraid. You just put the cooked veggies in the blender with water and freeze them in an ice cube tray to pull out when you need them. I can imagine you would save lots of cash here doing it as incognito did.

Mothercare has really cute stuff. We got some of their pajamas and they are awesome AND they can be put in the dryer!!

Pumpkin Patch has cute stuff but can be expensive, but they also have good sales.

Thank you ladies! I actually have two in diapers right now-one is 2yo, the other is 5 months old. The Huggies are actually doing an ok job, but they are so stiff and scratchy. The pampers were cheaper here, too...weird. Hopefully, my older one will take to the potty soon; that would be like having another income:)

I had planned on making my own baby food anyway because jarred baby food makes me gag, lol.

I guess I will just keep my eye out for sales. I just spent $11 on a tw0-pack of binkies. Yikes.

OMG my 2 year old burns through binkies like there is no tomorrow. Every week I am buying a 3-pack of Tommee Tippees for $5. I will be glad when we kick that habit at some stage, and then of course nappies. It seriously is like an extra income.

FYI - Aldi nappies are $15 for 50 up until like 12kg, then it's $15 for 44. For here that is good. I agree with Mamkai that they are a bit bulky (esp if you have slender little peanuts like she and I do) but I still like them. Huggies are probably a little bit more absorbant, but I cannot pass up the price. Mamkai I might have to try the Kirkland ones...

I get 3-packs of them at Coles usually. Terry White Chemist often has them, and I think the prices are better there. We get the ones that are just the plain cherry-type kind - similar to Happy Baby. We used to use Happy Baby until they were recalled, and now Finn won't touch them. He's a Tommee Tippee man.

I think Woolies may carry them as well.

We have never had any nappy rashes with any Aussie nappies. On the other hand, I thought my bubba was going to die of a nasty nappy rash he got from Pampers on the States a year ago.
Same thing happened to us! When we took J back for a visit (he was 10 months old at the time), we bought a giant box of nappies from Sam's Club...and they gave him a terrible rash! :( Never happened with the ones here.

Nappies - we've had good luck with the cheap-o Woolies & Coles brands. I think they run about the same price as the Aldi ones.
Wipes - the cheap cannister ones from Woolies/Coles
Clothes - Best&Less
Gear - believe it or not, eBay used to have the best deals when I had my kiddos. Not only used stuff, but new as well. It's worth a look.

Tors, we were using this supposedly new and improved Pampers type of nappies, and Finn started to get a horrid rash. Within days his entire bum was a bloody mess, and I was in tears whenever we changed him. We were visiting with my best friend and she said she heard something about that type of Pampers causing problems. So we brought them back to Rite Aid and they apologised and took them back, no problem at all. At least we had good customer service!
